When is the World Child Labor Prohibition Day observed?

Every year 12 June is celebrated as World Child Labor Prohibition Day across the world. It was started 19 years ago by the International Labor Union. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make children below the age of 14 years aware of education and progress by not making them work, so that children do not lose their dreams and childhood.


Recently, there was a report that the number of child laborers has increased to 16 crores. This figure has increased for the first time in two decades. A report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and UNICEF says progress towards stopping child labor has stalled for the first time in 20 years.


Many programs are organized around the world on this day. The main purpose of celebrating this day is also to stop child labor. Every year it is an effort to highlight the plight of child labor on World Day on 12 June.


 Whereas between 2000 and 2016, the number of children in child labor decreased by 9.4 million. go. There are many children who lose their childhood at a very young age. Children between the ages of 5 and 17 are engaged in work that deprives them of a normal childhood and is away from education and health.


There has been an increase of 84 lakhs in the last four years. It has been said in the report that due to the corona epidemic, the risk of increasing child labor has increased. World Child Labor Prohibition Day was started to stop child labor. This day is celebrated every year on 12 June.


The 'World Day for the Prohibition of Child Labor' was started by the ILO in 2002. This time 'Week of Action' is being celebrated which has started from 10th June. The report points to an increase in the number of children in the age group of 5 to 11 years in child labor, which is more than half of the total number of child laborers in the whole world.

In 2021, the number of child laborers in the world has increased for the first time in 20 years. According to the International Labor Organization, child labor promotes social inequality and discrimination. 

It is very important to stop child labor because due to the factors arising out of it like poverty, transfer, there is a lot of bad effect on a child mentally and physically. This time the event is going to be virtual due to Corona virus. Many children have lost their parents due to the corona virus, due to which they have to resort to child labor.

June 12 is celebrated as Child Labor Prohibition Day in India. In which programs are organized on the reasons for the wages of young children, discussions on the conditions and efforts to stop them. These programs have been running since the year 2002 but till date it has not been completely abolished.


History of Child Labor Prohibition Day

The International Labor Union (ILO) had raised the issue of preventing child labor for the first time, after which a law was unanimously passed in 2002, which made it a crime to employ children below the age of 14 years. The International Labor Union (ILO) has 187 member countries. The ILO has passed several conventions to improve labor conditions in the world. Moreover, it also keeps on giving necessary guidelines on matters like wages, working hours, favorable environment etc.
