There are also junior and wheelchair tournaments scheduled. Rafael Nadal is the four-time defending champion in men's singles, and Inga vetek is the defending champion in women's singles.

French Open 2021 Women's Winners in the Finals

Barbora Krejcikova became the first Czech women's singles champion since 1981 after beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the final of the French Open in Paris on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Krejcikova, who was unseeded and ranked 33rd, had not advanced past the fourth round in any majors before this trip to Paris. But after a magical run, defeating Elina Svitolina, Sloane Stephens, Coco Gauff and Maria Sakkari, she won the coveted Roland Garros Trophy after a two-hour-long final. Pavlyuchenkova, who played her first major final in her 52nd appearance, returned in the second set, showing off her talent with gusto, but failed to maintain her momentum until the end.

French Open of History

1891 – The first French tournament, the International Championship of Tennis, is held and is limited to members of French clubs.

1897 - Women's singles matches are added to the tournament, but are still restricted to members of the French club.

1925 – The tournament is opened to international competitors from non-French clubs. Women's doubles are also included.

1928 - The tournament moved to a new stadium. The stadium and tournament are named after Roland Garros, and the tournament is still widely known by that name. Garros was an aviator who made the first successful crossing of the Mediterranean in 1913.

1940–1945 - The tournament is canceled due to World War II.

1956 - Althea Gibson wins women's singles title, becoming the first African-American player to win a Grand Slam event.

1968 - Roland Garros becomes the first Grand Slam to become an open tournament.

2006 - The French Open awards equal prize money to the men's and women's singles champions, although the disparity remains in all other rounds.

2007 - Equal prize money was awarded to all female and male players in all events. The French Open is the last of four Grand Slam tournaments to move for equal pay in prize money.

2011 - Li Na becomes the first Chinese citizen to win a Grand Slam.
