 National Biopharma Mission-NBM

The National Biopharma Mission (NBM) is an academic-industry collaborative mission to accelerate discovery research for the early development of biopharmaceuticals. The mission aims to enable and nurture an ecosystem to build upon India's technological and product development capabilities in biopharmaceuticals including vaccines, biologics, medical devices and diagnostics that will be globally competitive over the next decade.

Recently, information related to the National Biopharma Mission (NBM) was released by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the Lok Sabha. National Biopharma Mission, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council.

Background:

India has been very active in the pharmaceutical industry and has been a major contributor to the manufacturing of life saving drugs and low cost pharmaceutical products for the needy on a global scale. It is anticipated that this will bring a big change in the Indian biopharmaceuticals industry. This will also create the necessary ecosystem for promoting entrepreneurship and indigenous manufacturing.

The Dedicated Program Management Unit (PMU) in the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology is the implementing agency for the mission. Under the National Biopharma Mission, skill development training programs will be facilitated for young professionals to build next generation inter-disciplinary skills for product innovation, knowledge to navigate regulatory policies, business development capabilities, IPR systems Next generation leaders through close engagement and collaboration of practices and industry and academia training partners to better manage and build an effective workforce.

The skill development training programs under the National Biopharma Mission will play a vital role in equipping the potential workforce with employable skills and knowledge and capacity building of the industry workforce so that they can make a significant contribution to the Indian biopharmaceutical sector.

Keeping in view the above, National Biopharma Mission has appointed Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) to conduct a series of practical and lecture-based workshops in various areas of Biopharmaceuticals across the country
